Special Awards

The special awards were presented at the final show of the season.

They are awarded to students or volunteers who display outstanding qualities both in the barn and in the show ring.

These awards change from year to year. They are intended to recognize those whose contributions help make Hunter Green Equestrian Centre the wonderful place that it is.

Volunteer Awards
For outstanding effort volunteering around the barn, giving 100 plus hours of their own time.

Horsemanship Award
This special award is presented to the student who displays outstanding horsemanship at all times. The student is always conscious of the horses' physical welfare as well as the horses' feelings. This student takes extra time grooming both before and after class and is thorough in their task. He/She shows a truly genuine concern for their mount as well as all the other horses and ponies in the barn.

Sportsmanship Award
This special award is presented to the student who displays outstanding sportsmanship both in and out of the competition ring. One who is always smiling and who congratulates others on their accomplishments no matter how large or small. This students enthusiasm is within their nature and is not rehearsed of manufactured.

Bahr Saddlery Award of Excellence
The Bahr Saddlery Award of Excellence is presented to the student who is
both an outstanding sportsman and horseman.
The student is never found putting her own desires and feelings before the care and welfare of the horse. The student displays maturity and confidence in the handling of these magnificent animals. She excels in her desire to learn more of this wonderful sport. This special award is presented to the student who displays outstanding sportsmanship both in and out of the competition ring.

Most Improved Rider Award
This young lady came to Hunter Green as a beginner rider. Her riding has improved so dramatically over the past year. She got her own horse, Lisa, and continued to improve. She also rode Gen for us in the Welsh pony shows, including at the Royal Winter Fair.

2008:
Top Junior Councilor
For outstanding effort as a junior councilor at summer camp 2008. She volunteered her time for several weeks this summer and did an excellent job with the campers.

Bravery Award
For bravery in the face of adversity!

This young rider took her pony to a horse show, but unfortunately her pony was injured and was not able to compete. She was very brave in coping with her ponies injury and was able to compose herself and compete on another pony.

Most Improved Rider Award
This young lady and her horse moved to Hunter Green in the spring of 2008. After a fall, she was frightened to ride in the front ring. Over the summer her confidence had increased tremendously and now she is disappointed when it is too wet to ride in the front ring.

2006:
Sportsmanship Award
This special award is presented to the student who displays outstanding sportsmanship both in and out of the competition ring.

One who is always willing to assist others and who congratulates them on their accomplishments no matter how large or small.

This students enthusiasm towards other is within their nature and is not rehearsed of manufactured. They are willing to give pointers and helpful hints to their competitors without thought of how this may affect their own ribbon and point standings; a strong competitor but yet an even stronger sportsman.

Horsemanship Award
This special award is presented to the student who displays outstanding horsemanship at all times.

The student is always conscious of the horses' physical welfare as well as the horses' feelings. This student takes extra time grooming both before and after class and is thorough in their task. He/She shows a truly genuine concern for their mount for the evening as well as all the other horses and ponies in the barn.

In the competition ring this student is not concerned with the colour of the ribbon he/she may earn, but is concentrated on advancing the training of the horse and is thrilled with the smaller, more subtle accomplishments. He/She has a competitive edge but is, at heart, a true horseman.

The Hunter Green Equestrian Centre Award of Excellence is presented to the student who is both an outstanding sportsman and horseman.

The student is always there for the other students and is willing to assist in any way he/she can in a supportive, educational and positive manner. The student is never found putting his/her own desires and feelings before the care and welfare of the horse.

The student displays maturity and confidence in the handling of these magnificent animals. His/Her knowledge of horses and the sport of riding are always being enhanced and he/she excels in his/her desire to learn more of this wonderful sport.
